Biography
Jonathan Maxfield McCormick has been involved with YOA since its
inagural tour in 2002. He has participated in six international
concert tours, four with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas and two
with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of New England Conservatory.
With YOA he has played under the baton of Placido Domingo, Leonard
Slatkin, Gustavo Dudamel, Carlos Prieto, and Benjamin Zander, with
soloists Yo-Yo Ma, Paquito D'Rivera, Gabriela Montero, and Mark
Summers. He has also participated in the Boston Univeristy
Tanglewood Institute Young Artist's Orchestra, the Atlantic Brass
Quintet Seminar, the Bar Harbor Brass Week led by Blair Bollinger,
and Domain Forget Summer Institute with Roger Bobo. He has appeared twice on the National Public Radio show "From the Top", first as "the tap-dancing tubist" with the New England Conservatory Scholarship Brass Quintet, and again with Gunther Schuller's "Ragtime Band." He holds a
Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory, and is currently
pursuing his Master's in Music from McGill University in Montreal,
QC. His principal teachers have been Dennis Miller, Ron Bishop, Rex
Martin, Charles Villarubia, and Jon Manning.
