Biography
Tyler Belluz is a recent graduate of Indiana University School of Music, where he was taught by the world famous pedagogue Lawrence Hurst. In recent summers, he has been taught by fine double bassists at numerous music festivals across North America. While he was studying, he was part of three orchestras in two different states, one of which he was principal for two years. In 2003 he won a spot in the New York String Orchestra Seminar that exclusively plays in Carnegie Hall. In 2004 he was part of the National Academy Orchestra and was happy to return in 2007. In 2005 he was a substitute for the National Ballet Orchestra of Canada, Red Deer Symphony, and a regular for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. He is still on first call with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (approx. 40 subscription concerts) under the newly appointed, Latin Grammy Award winner conductor Roberto Minczuk, acting principal for The Red Deer Symphony, the Kensington Sinfonia, as well as the Players Chamber Ensemble, Urban Village Chamber Orchestra, Oakville Chamber Ensemble. This past Fall Tyler was a long term resident at the Banff Centre. After his current recording residency at The Banff Centre, Belluz will be based in Montreal recording an album at Hotel2Tango with singer/ songwriter Kara Keith being produced by Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade) as well as a subbing for the Edmonton Symphony, Orchestra London, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic, Canadian Opera Company, and the National Ballet Orchestra of Canada. Tyler is looking forward to be touring Latin America with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas. His recent live orchestral recordings under CBC can be heard across national radio.
