Biography
Born in San Jose, Costa Rica in 1982, Jose Adrian Najera-Coto began playing trombone at age 12. He was awarded Bachelor of Music degree in tenor/bass trombone performance from the Universidad de Costa Rica, where he studied with Alejandro Gutierrez, Martin Bonilla and Ivan Chinchilla, members of Trombones de Costa Rica, and the Master of Music/Instrumental Performance degree from Western Illinois University. Najera-Coto was an active freelance in Costa Rica where he played with the most important ensembles of the country, including the Orquesta Filarmonica and the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Costa Rica as well as the most renowned Salsa/Latin bands. He was also involved with several chamber music groups, such as Expresiones Brass Quintet, Universidad de Costa Rica Trombone Quartet and the Ensamble Costarricense de Trombones. As an attendant of the 31st International Trombone Festival in Denton, Texas and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Festival Internacional Trombones de Costa Rica, Adrian has participated in individual and master classes for several trombonists, including Ralph Sauer, Don Lucas, Peter Ellefson, Ian Bousfield, Ben van Dijk and Charlie Vernon. Najera-Coto recently started working on the Professional Diploma in Orchestral Studies/Bass Trombone at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. His teacher is Jay Friedman, Principal Trombonist, Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
