Biography
Felipe Luzuriaga is Concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ecuador. He was Concertmaster and founding member of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, with which he has played as soloist in several occasions and has participated in its extensive tours through Europe and South America. He is teacher of Chamber Music and Violin at the Foundation for the Youth Orchestra of Ecuador (FOSJE).
Luzuriaga has played as soloist under such conductors as Gustavo Dudamel, Conductor-designate of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Conductor of the Youth Orchestra of Venezuela Simon Bolivar; Patricio Aizaga, Conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ecuador; Max Hobart, Conductor of the Civic Orchestra of Boston.
He has played chamber music and solo recitals in several concert halls in Ecuador, as well as abroad, including the Strings International Music Festival in Philadelphia, and with distinguished musicians, such as the Canadian pianist Jean Saulnier.
Luzuriaga has appeared live in national television and has been the subject of articles in newspapers and magazines, such as El Comercio, El Universo, El Hoy, Diners and Soho Magazines.
Graduated from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Magna Cum Laude, he obtained the Bachelor of Arts Degree with specialization in Music. He attained the Graduate Performance Diploma at the Boston Conservatory, where he studied with Lynn Chang, with a full scholarship. There, he also studied Conducting with Bruce Hangen, Chamber Music with Karl Paulnack, Jonathan Bass, Jung-Ja Kim and Ed Gazouleas.
He was Concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Boston, conducted by Max Hobart. He participated as Concertmaster of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) in the premiere of the opera Democracy with the Washington National Opera, directed by Placido Domingo. He participated in the YOA from its inaugural tour in 2002 through 2005. With this orchestra he has played with such conductors and soloists as Yo-Yo Ma, Paquito D’Rivera,
